Positive Playtimes is a targeted intervention led by pupils and midday supervisors that transforms the daily wellbeing of everyone in the playground.Learn how to promote mental wellbeing by bringing the 5 Ways to Wellbeing into the school day at the most unstructured times of day and ensure all children are included.
Positive Playtime Practice training includes:
Two facilitators working with Year Five pupils and staff to:
- undertake an interactive behaviour assessment against the 5 Ways to Wellbeing
- investigate current behaviours at break and lunch
- consider what they can do to improve those outcomes.
Then one facilitator working with pupils to:
- Action plan, driven by the children using their new insight, share examples from previous action planning sessions with different activities available for the pupils to choose from or tweak and adapt for their playgrounds.
The other facilitator working with staff to:
- Facilitate discussion based exercises to highlight a number of children they see as being isolated, withdrawn, presenting low level poor behaviours, etc.
- Plan specific tasks to deliver with pupils linked to the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
A bespoke action plan is then produced.
Outcomes
Increased whole school well-being, increased physical activity, engagement, happiness, social interaction and continued learning at lunchtimes and breaks.
