New education toolkit to empower students to become the generation that ends HIV stigma

A new resource called ‘Empowering Students: End HIV Stigma’ was officially launched at an event at Parliament on 23 March 2022, organised by UK charity CHIVA and hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on HIV and AIDS.

The new toolkit, developed by young people living with HIV, will enable teachers to educate young people with the facts about HIV in an engaging way and inspire them to become the generation that ends HIV stigma.

Dfe assured funded senior mental health lead training with Leeds City Council.

In June the DfE announced the introduction of the senior lead mental heath training grant:

'The Department for Education (DfE) is offering a £1,200 grant for a senior member of school or college staff to access quality assured training to implement an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in your setting. Grants of £1,200 will be available to around a third of all eligible state schools and colleges in England in the 2021 to 2022 financial year. This is part of the government’s commitment to offer this training to all eligible schools and colleges by 2025.
The grant is provided to cover (or contribute to) the cost of attending a quality assured course and may also be used to hire supply staff whilst leads are engaged in learning.' (www.gov.uk)

We are delighted to announce that we have been successful in bidding to become a DfE quality assured course provider. Our new DfE quality-assured intermediate level training programme will be launched from February 2022.

The 'Developing a whole school approach to leading mental health in your school' programme will be available to all schools in the Yorkshire and Humber region and is aimed at leaders in school who are familiar with the role and / or have 'completed limited senior mental health leadership training' already.

The Earthshot Prize revealed the first-ever five Prize Winners of the most prestigious environment awards in history at a ceremony held at London’s Alexandra Palace on SUnday 17th October. Each of the 5 winners will receive £1million prize money and a global network of professional and technical support to scale their remarkable environmental solutions to repair our planet and accelerate their impact.

The 5 winners included cutting-edge technologists, innovators, an entire country, and a pioneering city were selected by The Earthshot Prize Council and were chosen for their ground-breaking solutions to the greatest environmental challenges facing our planet and their ability to scale their impact globally in response to the urgent challenges we face.

Landmark report - UK can make major cuts to carbon emissions more cheaply than previously thought.

The Climate Change Committee (CCC) in its report ‘The Sixth Carbon Budget The UK’s path to Net Zero’ says that, for less than 1% of national wealth, the UK can reduce 78% of emissions by 2035, based on 1990 levels.
