Practical changes all schools can make to prevent sexual harassment, assault and rape in their communities.
What is the reality of sexual violence?
Why is sexual violence perpetrated and why is it so common?
What do we know can work to prevent it?
How can we apply that to our schools?
Details
The session will outline how prevalent sexual violence is in our society, how it is actually perpetrated and why it is so common. We will go through the research on what causes someone to perpetrate, including individual, societal and situational factors. Following that we will look at research for what we know can prevent it and then discuss how we can apply that to our schools.
Outcome
We want the session to provide practical takeaways including:
- An understanding of the reality of sexual violence in our society and amongst young people.
- An understanding of what can tackle sexual violence.
- Practical ideas for what they can implement or help implement in schools.
