Free School Meal Vouchers will be available over the summer holidays
During school closures schools have been supporting children entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) with either daily packed lunches, weekly hampers or supermarket vouchers. Until yesterday the Government had confirmed there were no plans to continue to fund the national voucher scheme over the summer holidays. However, with thanks Marcus Rashford and many other campaigners, including Sustain, a U turn was announced.
The year, over the 6 week summer break, all children and young people who’s family meet the FSM eligibility criteria, will receive a 6 week block of vouchers equivalent to £15 per week, per child, to spend on food from a range of supermarkets.
This lifeline will make such a different to many families and children and can often be the different between no food, food of poor nutritional quality or a healthy meal. You can read the full article by Sustain here https://www.sustainweb.org/news/jun20_fsmwin/
