The Government have published plans to tackle obesity and set out actions that will aim to help adults and children lead healthier lives. The full strategy can be read at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tackling-obesity-government-strategy.

In the last few months evidence has shown that obesity and overweight can put individuals at risk of worse outcomes from coronavirus (COVID-19). Obesity is also linked to higher risks of type 2 diabetes, cancer and other diseases, and a third of all children leave primary school overweight or obesity.

Key actions from the strategy include changes to food labelling, legislation to show calories on food eaten out of the home in restaurants and takeaways, restrictions on food advertising and a call to action to help encourage those who are already overweight to make positive changes to their health.
