Free School Meals Poster Competition Winner and Runners Up Announced!
To celebrate the launch of our brand new ‘Free School Meals’ toolkit available soon, we launched a competition across schools in Leeds to invite pupils to make and design posters to promote free school meals at their school.
For many children, a school meal provides a significant amount of their daily nutrient and energy needs. Therefore, the aim of the competition was to promote free school meals within schools and to parents and ensure any child eligible to receive free school meals can claim them.
A huge thank you to all the schools that sent in their entries, the standard was so high across the city. We had over 150 posters to review and judge, which included some wonderful drawings and key messages about the importance of free school meals, it was a tough job choosing the winner!
We were delighted to be working with Trinity Leeds who supported the judging of this competition and kindly donated the prize voucher to spend anywhere at Trinity Leeds.
We are pleased to announce that Zainab, year 5 at Cookridge primary school won the competition- congratulations!
We were thrilled to present Zainab with a certificate and the Trinity Leeds voucher at their school assembly last week. Another pupil at the school Evie, was also one of 5 runners up of the competition, a great achievement for the school!
Quote from Mrs Hunter, Head Teacher:
“We are already a healthy school and love art, so when we were asked by our art teacher, Mrs Ledda if we would like to design and make a poster to advertise free school meals we jumped at the chance. We hope our posters help encourage children and parents in Leeds to claim their free school dinners.''
We also had two fantastic runners up from East SILC, Madison and Kerri, Louise our runner up from West SILC, and another fantastic runner up at Newlaithes Primary- well done to all!
The winning and runner up posters will all be printed in the Free School Meals toolkit. All schools with a pupil winning the runner up prize will receive a complimentary of the toolkit to thank them for their pupils’ hard work.
