Presentation 2: Sun Safe Schools by Skcin, Marie Tudor
Sun Safe schools was developed by national skin cancer charity Skcin to provide primary schools with all the tools, guidance, resources and support they need to safeguard children in their care against over-exposure to UV during school hours and empower children to take charge of their skin health through educational intervention. Sun Safety is now included in the PHSE curriculum, and this accreditation provides everything a school needs to keep their pupils safe and fulfil their duty of care and all completely FREE to take part Please join our army of 6000 Sun safe schools and sign up today www.sunsafeschools.co.uk
For more information, please contact Christina.Driver@skcin.org
For early years and nursery settings we have our nursery accreditation on www.sunsafenurseries.co.uk
I hope the promo video was of interest and we will release that for hosting anywhere possible on 01 April 2023. We would love for some support with the video.
As for info about the charity, I have attached the About us flyer. I am happy for anyone to engage with and reach out to me to answers questions or look to collaborate.
An attendee did ask about the guidance and where this is relating to sun safety. The document is attached and it on page 49 under health and prevention. Please let me know if you need anything else. Kind regards, Marie

Thank you Sarah L for the links below on influencers:
- Ineqe Safeguarding: A Review of Harmful Content Online - Ineqe Safeguarding Group
- (information about who Andrew Tate is, why children are interested in the behaviour, how children are being exposed, potential risks and advice)
- PSHE Association: Addressing misogyny, toxic masculinity and social media influence in PSHE education (pshe-association.org.uk)
- (this is a guide which has been created due to schools becoming increasingly concerned about online influencers who are promoting harmful content. There are some useful tips - such as not focussing/naming one specific influencer. There's links to further guidance and training opportunities and specific links to the RSHE curriculum)
- NSPCC: Distressing online content | NSPCC
- (information about where children may see this content, the different types of 'distressing' content and top tips of how to support children)
- Schools, parents and children could also be encouraged to report any concerning online content they see - guides for each social media site are available on the Report Harmful Content site: Report Harmful Content - We Help You Remove Content
- Schools who would like to support with any element of online safety could choose to contact the 'Professionals Online Safety Helpline' (there's an email address and telephone number available): Professionals Online Safety Helpline - UK Safer Internet Centre
- As always - we'd recommend parents/carers have a variety of parental controls in place - there are some easy to follow guides on Internet Matters: Parental Controls & Privacy Settings Guides | Internet Matters and more information on CEOP Education: Using parental controls (thinkuknow.co.uk)
