Youth Mental Health First Aid Training (2 day course- face to face).

Description:
This course is suitable for anyone working or interacting with children and young people, including schools, settings, Children & Families Services, 3rd sectors organisation and private providers of service to children and young people.

Learning takes place across four manageable sessions. Through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Youth Mental Health First Aid action plan.

Session 1: Youth Mental Health First Aid; 
Session 2: Depression and anxiety;
Session 3: Suicide and psychosis ;
Session 4: Self-harm and eating disorders.

Please note: We limit numbers to 16 delegates per course, with a minimum number of 10 so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn.

Outcomes:
Our Youth MHFA Two Day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Youth Mental Health First Aiders have:
    • An in depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing;
    • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues;
    • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress;
    • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening;
    • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate;
    • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive;
    • Tools to look after their own mental wellbeing.

Everyone who completes the course will be able to take away with them:
    • A Youth MHFA manual to refer to whenever they need it;
    • A workbook including some helpful tools to support your own mental health;
    • A Youth MHFA lanyard and action card;
    • A Youth MHFA pen;
    • A certificate of attendance to say you are a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Approval process: 
Following the programme, delegates will receive a certificate confirming their attendance on the course, and their status as a “Youth Mental Health First Aider”.
Audience
This course is suitable for anyone working or interacting with Children and Young People over the age of 8.
Booking Information
Cost:
£180 per delegate for settings who have either an SLA with the Health & Wellbeing Service or the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Service.
£230 for settings with no current Health & Wellbeing or Health, Safety & Wellbeing Service SLA.

Duration of Course: You will need to arrive on time (8:45am for a 9am start until 5pm finish) and attend both days to gain accreditation as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Refreshments: Due to Covid -19 health and safety restrictions please bring your own refreshments and lunch for this day.

Cancellations: If you cannot attend the course we would ask that you email/phone us ASAP to let us know. You may be subject to a cancellation fee, subject to our terms and conditions.

This course is usually oversubscribed with waiting lists so we would like to offer unused places to others and therefore would appreciate as much notice as possible so that others have the opportunity to block out the time in their diaries.

Please be aware that if numbers fall below 8 on the day the course will have to be cancelled – this is a licence requirement. If you cannot attend both dates outlined due to a reason other than illness or a bereavement, you will not be able continue with the course and will not be entitled to a refund.
