Being FoodWise Autumn Toolkit

As the seasons change, so do the vegetables and now Autumn is here, its pumpkin season! With pumpkin picking and sales soaring in the run up to Halloween, we need to remember to be FoodWise in Autumn. 

This toolkit provides tips on how to avoid food waste by eating your pumpkins in delicious recipes including: pumpkin and raisin loaf, pumpkin hummus, Thai pumpkin soup and roasted pumpkin seeds, as currently only 33% of people who buy pumpkins cook the edible pumpkin they carve out. Although we love our pumpkins, we need to keep our hedgehogs safe, by avoiding putting pumpkins on the ground and keeping them out of reach from our prickly friends!

These recipes and ideas would be great to include in your cooking curriculum or share with parents as tasks for pupils to do with their family.

The toolkit also encourages the consumption of tasty seasonal fruit and vegetables by providing an Autumn #VegRocksRainbow to colour and complete every time a fruit or vegetable is eaten.
