East Leeds Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS) and Re-use shop and Kirkstall Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS) and Re-use shop. At both locations classes are typically divided into 2 smaller groups; one group benefits from a tour of the site whilst the other group visits the Re-use shop and vice-versa. Teachers must accompany classes on the tour and 1 months’ booking notice is required. All children will have the option of choosing a free book or item up to the value of £1.
Material Reovery Facility (MRF), HW Martin Waste Ltd. Typically classes are divided into 2 smaller groups and while one group benefits from a tour of the facility the other group will learn more about waste and recycling through interactive class based activities. In the case of primary schools please be aware that this visit is only available to pupils in years 4, 5 and 6. As a busy working site, there may be times when educational visits are unavailable and your understanding is appreciated.
Leeds Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility (RERF) Veolia Environmental Services. Typically classes are divided into 2 smaller groups and while one group benefits from a tour of the facility including, what is believed to be the largest living green wall in Europe, the other group will learn more about waste and recycling through interactive class based activities. For Secondary schools this visit opportunity is further enhanced through a complementary set of Fact Files supporting Key stage 3 & 4 pupils to enhance learning and available to prior to a visit. Group leaders will facilitate an activity on the day of the visit based on the Fact Files that relate to the curriculum including extension work back in school.
